This is the German beer market.

Schoff-TBR-2.2Brewer Brand Hype:
Schöfferhofer – sparklingly smooth! Schöfferhofer Weizen was the first wheat beer in Germany to be brewed outside Bavaria. For many years, it has proved to be one of the most successful German wheat beer brands, which include numerous award-winning and innovative variations in flavour. The most striking feature of Schöfferhofer Weizen is its fruity character with a slight citrus note. This, combined with a pleasant hint of clove, makes Schöfferhofer an enjoyable, sparklingly smooth beverage. Compared with the more filling wheat beers from the Bavarian region, Schöfferhofer is characterised by its ‘sleek’, elegant character and its resultant palatability. Schöfferhofer is known as “the champagne among wheat beers”.

Label: Schofferhofer Grapefruit is the unique combination of sparkling smooth
Schofferhofer Hefeweizen with grapefruit flavoring.A refreshing well-rounded taste with
tangy character and hints of sweetness is pleasing to the palate. Tastes best ice-cold and
right from the bottle. 50% of Schofferhofer unfiltered Hefeweizen blended with 50% grapefruit
drink. The natural ingredients may form a sediment at the bottom of the bottle.

The Brewski Review: This is one fantastic beer if your like grapefruit. The aroma and taste is to die for. The appearance is most definitely cloudy with a pale golden color. The head was minimal on the pour. It is a sweet beer so hop enthusiasts will want to beg off this one. I can imagine that the best time to drink one of these is probably not when it’s 3 degrees outside with a wind chill of 20 below. I purchased it on a nice warm spring day with every intent on cracking open the cap while chilling in my yet-to-be-built patio. Never happened. Life got in the way as it always does. Kids are getting older, I’m still working way too many hours for my personal preference (Positive 2015 will be the year I switch companies) and my project list is as long as it has ever been. I did knock off a couple big projects the last two months – installed a power vent water heater and tore down the chimney to the roof that serviced the old unit. With these project done, I can turn my attention to the interior of the house: tear down the chimney to the foundation and finish the master bedroom (the chimney brick was plastered over and was part of the wall in the room – thus, in order to finish the bedroom walls the chimney needed to go). I do plan on finishing the house sometime before doomsday – whenever that will be. This will make my wife and kids very happy.

Drinkability: Most definitely.
Appearance: Cloudy golden color.
The Buds: Excellent grapefruit flavor and aroma.
TBR Cap Rating: 4.75 caps out of 5.

TBR Reports on Stiegl Grapefruit Radler
File Date: June 29, 2014

File Name: Steamy Sunday Afternoon
The Beer: Stiegl Grapefruit Radler
Type: Fruit/Vegetable
Serving: Bottle
Stats: 2.5% ABV
Brewer: Stieglbrauerei zu Salzburg GmbH
Web Site: www.stiegl.at
State/Country of Origin: Austria
Brewer Info: We have been brewing beer here at our own brewery in Salzburg since 1492, always using the best spring water from the local Untersberg mountain. As the largest privately owned brewery in Austria, we have succeeded as an independent and self-sufficient family business. We wish to continue to produce Austria’s favourite beer, which is why we are dedicated to consistent quality and in turn to the art of brewing at the highest level!

Brewer Brand Hype: The grapefruit juice gives this cyclist a natural haze and herbduftige note. This leads to a juicy, fruity taste with a refreshing finish.
Label: Grapefruit Salzburger Stiegl Radler. Beer with fruit soda. Malt beverage speciality. 40% Stiegl-Goldbrau and 60% fruit soda from purely natural ingredients for an outstanding malt beverage speciality. Cloudy appearance.

The Brewski Review: Unfortunately, my mental and bodily dispostion to avoid the steamy 86 degree weather prompts me to be indoors to drink beer and write this review. And, I’ll say that this is the perfect beer to have on a sultry day even if you chose to kick back in the air conditioned luxury of the abode. The kids are screaming in the family room, my wife is cooking dinner and the dog is laying next to me stinking like she needs a bath and it’s still a good day to be inside even though this beer would make an equally snappy choice while grilling outside or having fun by the pool. The beverage pours a cloudy pale yellow and wiffs of a strong grapefruit aroma. At first taste, it’ll have you unless you some sort of hoppy IPA purist. It’s carbonated, light, crisp and all the flavor of a breakfast bowl of grapefruit. This grapefruit radler, with it’s tasty sister companion lemon radler, make me want to try the strawberry verion soon. If you would like to try something different stop by the beer aisle on your next trip to the store and pick up a few. I  think you’ll be very satisfied.

Drinkability: Will buy again.
Appearance: Cloudy pale yellow.
The Buds: Sweet grapefruit with carbonated zest.
TBR Cap Rating: 4.75 out of 5.

tbr-lemon-insertBrewer Brand Hype: A popular shandy beer in three wonderfully refreshing flavours. Stiegl Radler is half Stiegl Goldbräu and half high quality soda with all-natural flavours. Low in calories and with a low alcohol content they make ideal thirst quenchers.

The Brewski Review: I think my wife and I may have found out new summer beverage. Right when I opened this one up the aroma of lemons came over me and I knew it would be good. And when I took my first sip….it was love at first gulp. I just had to tell my wife about it and she agreed. ‘I could drink this.’ she said (meaning, as a regular summertime beverage). So, its a real winner in our household. It’s nice and light, very well balanced with just the right amount of lemon. The soda adds a little bubbly to it and makes it taste like a lemon wine cooler. I’m sure beer purists would gasp at that thought but there’s room in this IPA world for a nice, light beverage in everyone’s fridge. And, as I get older, I want to drink what tastes good; not what OTHERS think is a good beer. Now, it’s only 54 degrees outside today and I just came in from carving a couple pumpkins with my kids. This beer was good today and I’ll bet it would be fantastic on a warm spring day or hotter than bille-blue-balls summertime afternoon. Try it today. I think you’ll like what you taste. Oh yeah, they also make raspberry and grapefruit flavor. Neither of which were at the store but it’ll be my mission to track these down next summer.

Drinkability: Oh yeah! Will be buying this again.
Appearance: Pale golden color.
The Buds: Excellent. Nice and light with a little lemon zing.
