Brewer Info: Frankenmuth’s founding fathers brought the tradition of brewing to the mid-Michigan forests in 1845. John Matthias Falliers founded Frankenmuth’ first brewery in 1857. Cousins William Knaust and Martin Heubisch opened the Cass River Brewery just north of the Fallier property in 1862, where the Frankenmuth Brewery continues to stand today. The Cass River Brewery was purchases by Johann Geyer in 1874 and renamed Geyer’s Brothers Brewing Co. For the next 112 years, the facility operated under many names including the Frankenmuth Brewing Co.

The Brewski Review: When is not a better time to be indoors, than in the winter drinking a nice bock beer and watching zombie shows. The Walking Dead was playing reruns all day long today. AND, the wife took the kids to her sisters house. Why not take advantage of this? The Dead marathon was a precursor to the season premire tonight at 9pm. Can’t wait. The reason I like the thought of a world overrun by zombies is that it levels the playing field. That high flying, ego driven CEO would be down in the trenches with the guy who actually dug the trench. No amount of money would serve you well at this point because money would have no value. It’s those that prepare for such adversities that would come out on top. Of course, I’m no where near being prepared for anything. We have enough food and water to last about a week. I’ve been meaning to get around to purchasing more foodstuffs but it always takes a back seat to every other bill that shows up in the mail. But in reality, it wouldn’t be zombies. It’ll be a major power outage, severe winter storm, financial collapse, solar flare or any other Doomsday Prepper reason for stockpiling goods. I don’t think these people are kooks. I think everyone should have enough to get them by at least a couple weeks should some life threatening adversity befall them. The government can’t be there for everyone all at once.

Drinkability: Excellent. Would drink again

Brewer Info: In 1994, Colorado’s craft beer scene scarcely existed, but Brian Dunn recognized Denver’s potential to be a great beer city. Combining his business background with his passion for beer, which was developed through his international travels and his experience as a homebrewer, he decided to start a brewery. He set up shop in an abandoned dairy-processing plant at the edge of downtown Denver and began brewing the beers that would eventually carry Great Divide Brewing Company to its status as one of America’s most decorated microbreweries and would help transform Denver into an international destination for beer lovers.

The Brewski Review: The ‘old’ in Old Ale refers to beers that in times past, could have been left to age in wood containers of varying types for periods up to a year. Due to this the beer can pick up slight acid flavors. I didn’t detect that here, just plenty of roasted malt favors and a little on the bitter side for me. Overall, very good. With the high ABV content I drank it before dinner in the hopes that I could lay on the couch and pass out with a full stomach. But, I don’t think I needed the beer to fall asleep fast. We had a winter storm blow through last night that stretched across the nation. 100 million people were supposed to be affected by this. We didn’t get it as bad as they forecasted but they still shut down our plant giving me the day off (we’ll have to work Saturday to make up the lost production). Isn’t winter great? So many resources are consumed by pushing frozen water around. Time, money and physical energy, which, buy the way, is why I’m so wiped out. I even have a mondo-size snowblower to help move the snow around. If I ever build a new house I’d love to install heated sidewalks and a driveway. Then, I wouldn’t have any more excuses to not sit in front of the TV and drink beer.

Drinkability: Good. But not a fan.
Appearance: Rich ruby brown in color.
The Buds: Hearty indeed. Very hoppy/malty.

The Brewski Review:  I generally don’t watch too much TV. When I’m with the kids it’s usually an animated show or DVD. In a rare moment when the kids aren’t around you can find me scanning the channels for a good movie. If one isn’t showing at that particular point in time I’ll list the movies I’ve captured on our DVR (a great invention by the way). This is also good for the very few series that I’ve actually liked to watch but are aired after my 10pm curfew. One more to add to the list is ‘The Walking Dead’. I love a good zombie movie. Who doesn’t? The idea of having to live amongst the ‘unliving’ is appealing in a survivalistic sort of way. Where would you go? What would you do? It’s all about strategy. Someone should start a Zombie Survival Course at the university educational level. There are so many variables: are they fast or slow zombies? Will they come out in the light or are they dark dwellers? Is the head shot really the universal method of incompacitation? How bad do they smell? There are so many questions that need answered. AND, I’d bet you’d get to watch some killer zombie flicks. And, when your at home doing your zombie ‘homework’ you should crack open one of these beers: Shiner’s Holiday Cheer. This beer was my first Dundelweizen.  To be up front, I hope they all don’t taste this way.  I thought this beer lacked flavor.  It didn’t jump out at me like, ‘Man, I have to have this again.’  I thought Shiner Bock was fabulous so I’m not down on the brewery. Maybe I’ll try another next holiday season.

Drinkability: Beer with Peaches and Pecans? 
Appearance: Dark amber in color.  Big head.
The Buds:  Didn’t hold out much flavor.
